THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY - STUDIO ENTERTAINMENT
Pete Docter and Ronnie del Carmen, director and co-director, respectively of Disney-Pixar's “Inside Out” received an emotional, warm Manila welcome when they met the local press and graced the film's Philippine gala premiere Friday, Aug. 7.
The highly regarded duo flew into town as part of their Southeast Asian tri-city tour with Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Jakarta, Indonesia as their first stops. Both filmmakers met with numerous Disney-Pixar fans and the local creative communities at various on-ground events.
Speaking before the media, Del Carmen who was born and raised in Cavite shared he was ecstatic to return to his native homeland. “I left the Philippines when I was 30 years old and this visit is special because not only am I coming back, I have made something people are gonna see.”
“We know that Pixar has a huge following in the Philippines and we are honored to attend the gala premiere. We are excited to show everyone what we created for the past five years,” shared Docter.
The gala premiere was attended by prominent figures in the movie exhibition industry, animation fans and popular celebrities, led by the much sought-after model family, Team Kramer.
“We are excited to see ‘Inside Out’ because as we all know Disney Pixar films always have something to teach, not only to kids, but also to the grown-ups,” said famous athlete and family man, Doug Kramer.
Earlier in the day, Docter and Del Carmen interacted with the journalists and pop culture bloggers and shared with them the challenges in making “Inside Out” which basically set inside the mind of an 11-year-old girl.
Del Carmen also told the guests that there is a group of Filipinos called “Pixnoys” working in Pixar, who are characterized as being “noisy” but “very creative.”
On Monday, Aug. 10, Del Carmen will present “The Making of Inside Out: A Behind-the-Scenes Look with Co-Director Ronnie del Carmen” at the SM Aura. The talk is expected to be attended by aspiring and professional artists and animators and is co-organized by the Animation Council of the Philippines.
One of the best reviewed movies to date, “Inside Out” is a comedy adventure featuring a team of Emotions who help guide an 11-year-old girl named Riley through an unsettling change in her life.
“Inside Out” opened in the U.S. June 19 with a monumental USD $92-million haul, the biggest debut ever for an original film. On its third week of release, “Inside Out” catapulted to the number one spot of the US domestic box-office. Its cumulative gross now stands at USD $325-million and still counting.
Pete Docter has been nominated for six Academy Awards, including best animated feature winner “Up” and nominee “Monsters, Inc.,” and best original screenplay for “Up” and “WALL•E.”
Aside from co-directing “Inside Out,” Ronnie del Carmen has also been a member of the story team on a number of the Pixar’s films, including the Academy Award-winning features “Finding Nemo,” “Ratatouille” and “Up” (for which he served as story supervisor).
Opening across the Philippines on August 19, “Inside Out” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.
Ahhh...Pixar has, once again, delivered a perfect animated movie that will touch the hearts of kids and adults alike — Inside Out.
It is an emotional roller coaster and I'll tell ya upfront -- this will make you laugh, this will make your hearts cry out, and this is undoubtedly one of the best films of the year!
The Fantastic Four franchise is in need of another reboot! Seriously, this new take on Marvel's first family even made the 2 previous F4 movies look good.
The movie had a great start, 2nd act was a wee bit dull, and you'd be lost with the final act.
The studio had a great opportunity to finally deliver a great reintroduction of the Fantastic Four and they have so failed on this. Sure, they had the origins of how the heroes got their powers (which was a huge drag) but there weren't any justification of how they became a team and a family. There were just no proper character development nor a bond between the four, maybe except for Reed and Ben.
The film focused solely on the creation of the machine that will transport them to another dimension that they seem to have forgotten that this is a superhero flick. It was only in the third act that we finally see some action but it felt so rushed by then.
There's nothing to root for here. It was a lazy and dull attempt. I liked the casts, the effects and the mood of where the film was heading but that's just it.
The Fantastic Four deserves so much better treatment than this. I think that a sequel is already in works and but I think that they should do some major rethinking first before going into production.

The team that brought us Potato Night will once again give out FREE movie tickets for their special screening of Fantastic Four.
I love it when comic book stories are adapted into a full length film— what more if it’s about a tragedy Batman had to accept just so he could move on with his crusade?
One of my favorite comic book adaptation is DC Comics' Under The Hood by Judd Winick and Doug Mahnke. A few elements from The Killing Joke and A Death in the Family were used here as well.
What’s the film all about?
Being a sucker for full length animated films, I cannot believe that I have just seen Rise of the Guardians, despite my sister's countless attempts to get me to watch this outstanding feature.
I had no idea what the film was all about but decided to to give it a go anyways.
Storyline:
When an evil spirit known as Pitch lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces for the first time to protect the hopes, beliefs, and imaginations of children all over the world.
Rise of the Guardians tells the story of our childhood heroes who has united in hopes of protecting the innocence of children all over the globe against the very evil individual, Pitch, or better known by the name Boogey Man!
The Guardians, led by a tatted Santa Claus, along with the boomerang wielding Easter Bunny, the mystical Tooth Fairy and the dream-bearer Sandman set out once again to chase away the fear and nightmares that the Boogey Man is spreading out.
Enters the main protagonist of our adventure, Jack Frost, who was chosen to be part of their roster. Nobody knows why he was chosen, he was a nobody to anyone, even to himself, and none of the children has ever heard of him. Amongst all the Guardians, he's invisible to the kids as no one believes in him. Though, he does his part by giving out the best time any child could have during the snow seasons.
The re-imagined childhood fantasy characters here are wonderfully delivered. All of which are given a few twists and quirks to their origins, but does not really sway away from any other portrayal that they've had through out the years.
The film simply revolves around the importance of belief in one's self; to others; as well as the strong bond that companionship can provide. I highly recommend watching this picture if you haven't yet. The design and visuals are pleasing to the eyes, tons of funny scenes, exciting choreographs--it is just absolutely wonderful!
The film is definitely one for the kids and all ages, it'd surely put smiles on everyone's faces.
My rate: 3 and a half bats

I'm glad that the first two finally made it to our shores, they have been released internationally many months before and these will be perfect for my DCAU DVD collection.
I'll be back for those as I only had funds for a single purchase at the time and I picked out Assault on Arkham. Why? Because I couldn't believe it when I saw physical copies in our stores! This is set to be screened at San Diego Comic Con on July 25, digital copies will be released on July 25 and DVDs/Blus on August 12.
We are the first to have the title available for first viewing and I would not dare miss out on that chance!

After the disappointing events of the third X-Men film, The Last Stand, the series was left in a very weird place. By the end of the film, most key characters were either dead, or were stripped out of their mutant powers. Almost leaving fans with just about Wolverine left standing, hence getting his 2 standalone films.This was a drastic moment for the X-Men franchise and almost closed the doors to the possibilities of getting another sequel. In which, the sort of a prequel for the trilogy came to shape. First Class introduced us to the younger versions of Professor X and Magneto. How they came to be best buds and rivals at the same time. This of course gave hardcore fans the hope they needed for the franchise to survive.
Enter Days of Future Past, which works as a sequel to both the original trilogy and to First Class. Helmed by the original director, Bryan Singer, the new film hopes to establish a proper timeline for the series and eliminate the mistakes from the previous films.
Days of Future Past (DoFP) opens in the not so distant future wherein the invincible robot-like Sentinels has emerged to destroy the mutant species. The goal was a success leaving only a few of them alive with just a few fights left in them.Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) seemed to have a found a way to prevent the Sentinels from ever happening. They sent Wolverine's (Hugh Jackman) mind 50 years back of his younger self to stop Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) from murdering Dr. Boliver Trask (Peter Dinklage), the man responsible for the Sentinel Program. Doing so might prevent the Sentinel plan from ever happening as Trask's timely death will eventually lead to the government to move forward with the program to eliminate all existing mutants.
The setting of the film mostly takes place in the past, where Wolverine has to team up with the younger selves of Professor X (James McAvoy), who is currently powerless due to the events of First Class, and Magneto (Michael Fassbendel).The complicated plot worked to its worth. Time travel is a tricky thing and the direction of how things and events took place in DoFP set things straight for the franchise.
The characters are well handled and delivered, as well as the development of the casts. That surprising Quicksilver (Evan Peters) short of a performance is something to praise for. Of all the cast though, I say that James McAvoy was phenomenal as the younger Charles Xavier. I always looked at the character as just the leader and mind of their team, nothing more, but in DoFP, we get to know him a bit personally just as it was in First Class.
Days of Future Past is pure entertainment that will leave us fans satisfied til the next installment. It's a definite watch, just be sure to see the first installments first as a lot of references and characters were borrowed from them.With outstanding visual effects. great battle scenes, natural story and development, DoFP is a highly recommended watch!

TF fans, roll out! Michael Bay's 4th take on the franchise has arrived!
As with any of the previous Transformers films, movie goers and critics should have a broad idea of what to expect already. Other than the new casts, this is still that typical Bayformers that we all love to hate, or hate to love for that matter.
First off, I'd like to thank Magnavision Home Video! Almost all seats were already taken for the premiere night, hence sadly resulting to my planned reserved tickets be moved to Sunday. Their team provided me with free block screening tickets (from their surprise promo) and then got to enjoy the film firsthand! Check them out over at Facebook!
After the events of DoTM, wherein the Autobots helped the humans in ridding the world of the Decepticons, the US government has then turned their backs on all Cybertronian life form on Earth, hunting all the remaining Decepticons in hiding, as well as Optimus Prime and the rest of his Autobots.
The humans does not stop at just hunting them down, as others had found the means of engineering and creating man-made bots by thorough studies and experimentaions.
Danger arrived on Earth once again, and Optimus Prime will have to decide to team up once again with the very humans who betrayed them.
The storyline should have been as simple as that, but with cheesy and unlikable dialogues, plus the usual overused of CG effects, explosions and whatnots everyone had come to expect from director, Michael Bay, the film really went downhill to ever more downhill.
After all the critics bombarded the previous films with negativity, Bay still pushed on and approached the fourth installment with the same old treatment.
Mark Wahlberg is a welcome addition to replace the original trilogy's protagonist, Shia. To be honest, I think he's the only one worth mentioning out of the new casts. I can't pinpoint it yet but something definitely seemed off with the rest of the supporting characters. Maybe it's the way they acted or played the roles or they just don't seem to fit for the parts; or maybe it's the way their characters were written.
A lot of new bots were introduced as well, but what got me excited early on was the Dinobots. Really, when they were first shown with the trailers, hardcore TF fans must have been so eager to see them on the big screen. At least that was the case for me, but what a disappointment it was. I think there were no back story nor character development for them. Bay and his team could have forged something else to properly squeeze in the Dinobots in the franchise, not just for the sake of having them.
Moving on with the visual effects, this may be the only film (or franchise) that is out there of its kind.
Sure, a lot of films these days uses CG most of the time, but with Transformers, it is used a LOT of times, all throughout the 3 hours or so. I do love CG, but it's an overkill already with the series. Maybe if the running time was shortened, it would not have been as boring as it already was with the previous sequels.
Still, I think that this has a lot to offer in terms of future installments. The new direction of the story, plus the overall new casts, almost makes this a reboot of some sort. As a longtime fan of the Transformers saga, I'm one of those who's still willing to share some interest on watching these, despite of all the flaws with Bay's Transformers franchise.
Overall, Age of Extinction may be the best of all the bad TF film adaptation out there. Long time general TF fans would still want to see it, just for the sake of it being a Transformers film, but for the casual movie goers, serious movie fans/critics, watch at your own risk. This probably isn't for you. The 3 hour running time will definitely wear you out.

At last, Warner Bros. has released the official title for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel sequel and it's called "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice".
Also released to the public is the the new logo for the soon to be epic film.

Here's our first look of Ben Afflect donning the mantle of the Dark Knight, side by side with the new Batmobile which was tweeted by Zack Snyder earlier.
The director first teased a partial image of the batmobile and the internet went gaga over it. Even more so when he finally released our first glimpse of the new Batman suit.
Still too early to judge but I'm liking the short ears. Looks like this live action adaptation finally got a very good looking representation of the comicbook designed suit.
The Batman vs Superman film is slated for a July 2015 release. Hopefully, we get more news and images from here on.
