So, I randomly bought a sketchbook a few weeks back from Fully Booked. Nothing fancy but I always wanted to own one. Not for me to doodle on or anything but for those talented individuals I have met and will hopefully get the chance to meet at upcoming pop culture gatherings.
Toy and comic conventions are usually filled with these amazing artists and I've always wanted to have a piece of their works for my personal keeps. Hence, the sketchbook! Wuoo!
I was eyeing out on these Batman designed Moleskine sketchbooks but decided against them after seeing the same ones from my friends. It seems that they easily looked used up after a couple of handling and the paper quality seemed too thin for my liking.
Too bad as these Moleskine notebooks would have been perfect for my theme!
Moving on, I saw this thick Monologue sketchbook that looked like it will last for years. It felt like the pages will remain intact and secure even after a number of use. The pages seemed thick enough, as well. I'm not familiar with paper qualities and all but I think these thick textured pages are intended to be used for water colored pieces. Even the artists that drew for my project complimented the quality of my notebook and that's gotta mean something! Haha!

Now, enough with the darn sketchbook and off to the first few sketch entries inside! Oh, as with this post title, the theme of my project is Joker, my all time favorite villain. Why Joker? Well, I would love to have as many Batman sketches but there are a lot of people doing that theme already. I decided to go with the Joker just so I can differentiate my notebook from the rest. Also, I heard from some artists that Batman is so easy to draw (Oh, how I envy those talented folks!) but a Joker portrait is somehow challenging. So, there!
First up is Aaron Felizmenio's take on the Clown Prince! I first saw his Batman related works at the #TDKPH Facebook group and instantly became a fan! I messaged him to order a print and asked if I could ask for a Joker sketch. I wanted his work to be the first entry on my project and I would not let others touch my notebook before him! His reply? "Pressured to ah!" Haha!
Second entry was from Jovenal Mendoza. He is #TDKPH's artist of the month and true enough, he deserves the title. I was really shy to approach him for a sketch as he was busy working on some pieces at the time. Turns out that he's really a great guy and even had a small talk with him while he was working on my notebook. He said that animation was his first love and later on moved to working on comic book characters. Really love his take on the Joker below!
JC Fabul was the only artist at the #TDKPH booth at Komiket when I first arrived. I silently browsed the prints available at the table and just stood there watching him work on a commission. He then greeted me with a "Hello" and directed me to which of the prints was his. I replied with a big WOW! These were the works that was featured in our Facebook group! I immediately reserved a copy of his Batman print and asked for a sketch later on! WIN-WIN!
It was really great to be able to start my project with these great folks! Gives me some sort of accomplishment to actually have a starting point as I've always been shy to approach them at conventions. Haha!
Anyway, I'm splitting this into two posts as I'm running late for work! Arghh! I really enjoyed sharing the works above, though. Watch out for the next entries in my notebook!

DC Comics declared September 26 the official #BatmanDay this year and it has become one of the most anticipated events for the fans of the Dark Knight!
Fully Booked and Comic Odyssey teamed up once again to bring the worldwide celebration to our shores!
Fans of all ages got a copy of the Special Edition Endgame issue 1 with a bonus preview content of the new weekly series, Batman and Robin Eternal.
The stores offered a lot of discounts off their comics book and graphic novel selections! Some were even at 50% off!
David Mack was also a special guest of Fully Booked!
Too bad that I was not able to attend his panel nor buy one of his limited prints as I promised to attend another Batman related event — the launch of The Dark Knight PH, a Facebook group that I recently joined.
The launch took place at DK Collectibles, previously known as Druid's Keep. This was my first time to have visited their new store and it definitely left a WOW impression on me (more on that soon)!
I met a lot of fellow members of the group and the admins! Really great guys and what a fun hangout it was!
The launch was filled with raffles, trivias, film viewing, artists sketch sessions, Batman shaped cupcakes and more!
Argh I wish my camera had not died on me that day!

Disney has maximized the
potential of their rights to the Marvel Comics property when they introduced
Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes last year. It’s a no brainer that they’d
do the same for Star Wars, especially now that The Force Awakens is just a few
months away until its premiere.
Yep, Disney has recently announced that the Star Wars franchise will be joining the Disney, Pixar and the
Marvel Comics universes in Disney Infinity 3.0, Disney’s action-adventure multi-platform game with physical toys, open world creation and
story-driven gameplay.
I was privileged to
have been invited to the PH launch last Thursday and was hyped enough that I’m
now considering of getting the game. During the press con, attendees got the
chance of trying out the game itself and got an exclusive preview of what the new
installment has in stores for us.
Disney Infinity 3.0 will feature new story-driven Play Sets, new Expansion Games, and more selection of the much favorite characters from the Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars entities.

First off are three Star Wars Play Sets — Twilight of the Republic, set in the prequel trilogy; Rise Against the Empire, set in the original trilogy; and The Force Awakens, which will be based on the upcoming film. Jason Moffitt, the producer of Disney Infinity ensures that the game will give its players the complete, multi-level, true-to-property experience with these.
Aside from the Star Wars sets, version 3.0 will also feature more Disney and Marvel play sets featuring characters such as Ultron, Hulk Buster, Mickey, Minnie, Mulan, Olaf and the lovable emotions from Pixar’s Inside Out, among others.
We also got a glimpse of unannounced figures of Judy and Nick from Disney's Zootopia, as well as Spot from Pixar's The Good Dinosaur.
The newly enhanced Toy Box Mode will feature two new adventure games — the Toy Box Speedway, wherein players gets to race with favourite Disney, Marvel and Star Wars characters across themed tracks; and the Toy Box Takeover, where players enlists the good guys to outsmart and defeat the bad guys in action packed levels.
While the games are obviously designed and for the kids, the quality of the physical figures makes them worthy collectibles for the general hobbyists and the features of the games will definitely appeal to the gamers. Win-win for all of us!

Star Wars
fans, rejoice! We're getting a limited edition Darth Vader inspired PS4 console
this year.
The fully customized PS4 features an image of Darth Vader, as
well as a repeated Star Wars logo
across the top of the system. The Darth Vader edition DUALSHOCK 4 is inspired
by Darth Vader’s chest panel and features the repeated Star
Wars logo on its touchpad.
The special edition console can be had by purchasing one of
the two bundles that are slated for a November release. The first is called the Star Wars Battlefront Deluxe
Edition which includes the
500GB customized PS4, the new Battlefront game, and digital download codes for
four classic Star Wars games — Super Star
Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter
and Star Wars Bounty Hunter — playable for the first time on PS4, and sporting enhanced

In
celebration of the release of Disney Infinity 3.0, the special edition Vader

Empire Play Set piece), and the Boba Fett figure, exclusive to PlayStation
through this holiday, as well as the download codes for the four classic Star
Wars games mentioned above. This bundle will only be available through
Wal-mart, as per announcement of Sony.
Overall, these Star Wars bundles are a sure hit for hardcore fans of the franchise and for the casual gamers. It's like the force is telling you to buy one just by looking at that Darth Vader portrait.
